چکیده
BACKGROUND: Cocoa, a significant contributor of polyphenols to the western diet has been shown be effective against Aβ induced toxicity in vitro. However, effects long-term cocoa supplementation on behavioural deficits, particularly short-term memory loss observed human AD are not well defined. OBJECTIVE: This study characterized phenotype pan-neuronal expressing C. elegans strain and investigated deficits including lifespan. METHODS: Cocoa powder was supplemented E. coli OP50 starting from L1 stage until they die. Neuronally controlled processes locomotion, learning were studied at different stages In addition, lifespan evaluated with doses. fibril levels determined Thioflavin T. RESULTS: worms showed reduced growth, maximum speed old age, middle age Cocoa-supplementation reversed speed, reach similar control counterparts while reducing levels. CONCLUSIONS: Long-term seemed improve elegans.

Assaying β-amyloid Toxicity using a Transgenic C. elegans Model
Accumulation of the β-amyloid peptide (Aβ) is generally believed to be central to the induction of Alzheimer's disease, but the relevant mechanism(s) of toxicity are still unclear. Aβ is also deposited intramuscularly in Inclusion Body Myositis, a severe human myopathy. The intensely studied nematode worm Caenorhabditis elegans can be transgenically engineered to express human Aβ. Depending on ...

Cerebral microvascular amyloid beta protein (Abeta) deposition and associated neuroinflammation is increasingly recognized as an important component leading to cognitive impairment in Alzheimer's disease and related cerebral amyloid angiopathy disorders. Transgenic mice expressing the vasculotropic Dutch/Iowa (E693Q/D694N) mutant human Abeta precursor protein in brain (Tg-SwDI) accumulate abund...
متن کاملAminostyrylbenzofuran Directly Reduces Oligomeric Amyloid-β and Reverses Cognitive Deficits in Alzheimer Transgenic Mice
Alzheimer's disease is an irreversible neurodegenerative disorder that is characterized by the abnormal aggregation of amyloid-β into neurotoxic oligomers and plaques. Although many disease-modifying molecules are currently in Alzheimer clinical trials, a small molecule that inhibits amyloid-β aggregation and ameliorates the disorder has not been approved to date. Herein, we report the effects ...

The efficacy of antihypertensive agents in Alzheimer's disease (AD) is controversial. It has been tested here whether some antihypertensive drugs might influence AD through mechanisms independent of blood pressure-lowering activity. The effects of treatment with the antihypertensive propranolol on cognition and AD-related markers have been studied in the Tg2576 mouse model of AD. Propranolol, a...

Lycium barbarum, a classic Chinese medicine, has a large variety of biological activities, including improvements in immunity, as well as anti-aging and anti-oxidation activities. It has been used to improve or restore deteriorating functions related to aging and diseases. Although its nerve protection effects also have been proved in vitro and in vivo, the molecular mechanism of action is not ...
